The Digital transformation has taken the world by swirl. Slowly and gradually we all have started using the digital mediums to transfer money online rather than old time taking methods. UPI is the best way and is preferred by all. UPI payment requires an application and an active internet connection to process the payment. One of the draw-back arises when there are connectivity issues, as it’s difficult to process while low or no connection. As an alternative to this, there’s a way through which users can send money using UPI without an internet connection.

Here’s how you can Send Money Using UPI Without Internet

Whenever a user wants to make an online payment without the internet or has no access to UPI apps on his phone, he can use the USSD-based service to make payments.

The NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) launched the USSD-based mobile banking along with BHIM UPI app in 2016 in India.

Steps to send money using USSD Code

Before initiating the process, one should check whether his mobile number is registered with the bank. Next, the user should download the BHIM UPI app and register with his bank account.

After registering, one should do the following –

  1. The user should open the dialing key pad on his phone and dial *99#. On doing so, a menu with different options will pop up including Send Money, Receive Money, etc.
  2. The user is required to reply with 1 which will select the Send Money option.
  3. This will show the options to send money including- Mobile number, UPI ID, or Account No. & IFSC code. User should select his preferred option.
  4. Next, the user should enter the mobile number of the person to whom they’re sending money. Or enter the UPI ID, or account number, and IFSC code.
  5. After entering that person’s mobile number, UPI ID, or bank account details, user should enter the amount he intends to send in rupees.
  6. The name of the beneficiary will then be seen and user can add remarks if he wants.
  7. Next step is to enter the UPI Pin and tap on Send.

After the above steps, the user will get the transaction status along with the reference ID. A user can transfer a maximum of ₹ 5000 per transaction using this service as per the latest updates. Using this service, user can send and receive money without any data and even using a basic feature phone.
